Book #6, Stand on It, Cover (Color) plus a labeled version

Okay, I just finished the first re-write and I've sent it out to my Beta Readers, while I do the final edit and look for types and other issues. Right now I'm shooting for a January 30th (Tuesday) release date. If I get stuff back sooner, it could conceivably go out on Monday, the latest it will go out is Wednesday.

I'm attaching two copies of the cover, the first is as it will appear, the second is for those of you who aren't sure who's who.

Thanks, all of you.

  3. Its always nice to hear a book is going to be out sooner than you were expecting as I believe you said in the authors notes for When It Falls you were aiming for February some time.

Good looking cover as well, but there is one thing that got me. Cali, I had her pictured in my mind with much darker skin from the descriptions rather than the traditional greyish skin of dark elves in most fantasy. Also, the sketch you posted a few days ago really threw me off with Jos and Pegs height. They looked barely taller than Daelyn even accounting for distance scale. Glad to see they are as tall as they are supposed to be in the finished cover.

    2. Honestly, yes her skin is much darker, but covers are never perfect, there's always a few things that are off a little.
      Still I'm happy with it.

    3. "Covers are never perfect" - truth, if you judge them on accuracy of detail, but your covers are spot-on perfect capturing the feel of the books. Really, really great.

  10. Just wanted to say, thank you for an awesome series that has kept me coming back! the writing style, story line, amazing art (for the covers) and the (never soon enough for the veracious audience) thankfully timely delivery of the next in the series has made this one of my favorite authors/book series. Thank you again for the hard work you put in for our reading pleasure, it is greatly appreciated!

  11. I love the series and I really think you should make separate things for girls backgrounds especially since they as much part of this story as Sean is and they'll make great stories too. Can't wait to read the next book!

  12. What I can't figure out is how you manage to write such great novels in so short a time for each (even with the occasional typos that get through). Are you writing them full time? As an author myself (look me up on Amazon by my name, Theresa Holmes, but be warned, I don't write at all the same kind of tales), I've been known to write for hours--till I can't even read what I wrote because my eyes are worn out--but I haven't finished rough drafts of any of my novels in the time frames you've managed. Keep up the great work.

I can hardly wait to get your new one on my Kindle so I can see how Sean and the girls manage to survive this latest disaster.

    1. Yes, I write full time. On writing days, I usually do at least 5K, though 7K to 10K is my goal. My days tend to be long, I start early in the morning, and often write into the evening. Of course, I've been writing professionally for seven years now, and full time for almost four.

The big thing is to treat it like a job, because it is one. That discipline, along with constant practice improves your ability over time. Right now it takes me about three weeks to write a novel, then I spend another week or two on rewrites and trying to find typos. My personal goal is to get the writing part down to two weeks, and to cut down the amount of typos coming out of the first draft to less then twenty.

Once I get to that point, I'm sure I'll come up with a new target. There are just so many stories I want to write, that I keep telling myself that I need to work faster and harder if I want to get them all down :-)

    2. I'm impressed. I'm pretty good at catching typos and incorrect word usage--and definitely wouldn't mind being a beta-reader. What word-processor are you using? Word?

    3. Yes, I use MS-word. One of these days I may check out Grammarly again, to see if it can actually handle realistic sized documents, last time it could only handle about 5 or 6 pages at a time, which made it useless for me.
I do use a tool called PerfectIt, which does help some. The problem with English is that there are really just no hard and fast rules and grammar changes constantly.
