Up Coming Audio Book Releases on Audible

Okay everyone, here is the current release schedule for the next set of audiobooks on Audible.

From Podium Publishing:

Books 15/16 heading out for release on January 28

The next pair of Wives Tales will be Feb 25

And No Regrets is likely late March or early April release - exact date TBD but I’ll keep you posted.

I've not been getting much done the last couple of weeks, I've been enjoying the time off and lack of deadlines. Which of course isn't going to last much longer :-)

I hope you have all had a wonderful holiday!

The First Two Wives Tales are up on Audible

Hey Everyone! The first two wives tales books are now up on audible for those who don't already have them. My publisher asked me to pass on not to use your credits on them, because they're less than two dollars to buy ($1.72 in the USA) and a credit is worth a whole lot more than that. So you'd be better off just paying cash.

Again, books 15 & 16 should be up next month, no word yet on book 17 or the remaining two Wives Tales books.

Valens #17, no Regrets will be live, any minute now...

So with the way things have been running lately, I submitted 'No Regrets' to Amazon about 7pm tonight, figuring that it probably wouldn't go live until Friday. Then I go check the page around midnight as I'm starting to think about bed and it's in 'Publishing'.

The page isn't working yet, but I do have a link. I thought about waiting until morning to put it up, but I know some of you check these things fairly regularly, so I figured I'd just put it up here.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0813691DN

It's 12:30am Central here, I figure in an hour, two tops, the link should be live. Hopefully Amazon won't make a liar out of me!

Night!

Wives Tales #4 will be live soon.

Well, it took two days, but the fourth installment in the short stories is now going live:

ASIN: B07ZY8Z558

the url should be: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07ZY8Z558

I'm still waiting on the artwork for Book #17, 'No Regrets'. Once I have that I'll move forward with publishing it. Hopefully by next weekend.

For those of you looking for Michael-Scott Earle

For those of you who are Michael-Scott Earle fans, the whole fight with Amazon is over, and unfortunately, Michael lost.

BUT Michael-Scott has his own website now: https://www.michaelscottearle.com/

So please, if you like his books, go check him out! It's a lot harder to find out what he's got going on now that you can't see it on Amazon, and let's be honest, you shouldn't trust Amazon to always let you know what's going on. They do make mistakes, and of course, they don't know what's going on offsite.

So mosey on over to his website and consider subscribing to his newsletter. For that matter, you should consider subscribing to all of the authors you like newsletter's. Because that way you'll know just what's coming out and you won't have to rely on some algorithm to remind you.

Thanks!

Wives Tales #4 in Processing

So last night I put up 'Wives Tales #4' while waiting for Valens #17 (No Regrets) art to show up. (Still waiting btw).

It's been over ten hours and it's still not published? I guess Amazon has changed its system. This is twice in a row now that publishing times have been much longer than they used to be. If I were a suspicious man, I would say someone decided to delay all books to 72 hours, to be 'fair'.

Oh wait, I AM a suspicious man... ;-D

The next audiobook publishers pack

Okay everyone, I heard back from Podium and the next audiobook publishers pack (books 15 & 16) will be coming out in January. I'm going to push to see if I can get book #17, which will be the series end, to come out soon afterwards, so there won't be too long of a wait.

Just finished the first Draft

So I just finished the first draft of book 17 - No Regrets.
I have to send it to my beta readers, as well as re-read it myself. I also need to commission the cover.
Once I have it ready to go, I am planning on writing a few short stories that I'll release as well. Those will be to answer some questions and cover some things not covered in the book.

This was a tough one to write for a number of reasons, I think it took me all day to just write the last thousand words. But that's how it is sometimes I guess.

My 'Days of Future Past' Trilogy on Audible

All three of the audiobooks for 'The Days of Future Past' Trilogy have been bundled into one big audiobook (19 hours). This was written under my real name, if you haven't seen it.

So for those of you who like audiobooks and want a long one, here it is:

Just a general update

Someone reminded me that I haven't made an update in a while. Yes, I definitely need to remember to do this, it is easy to forget at times!

Book #17 is in process, it's taking a bit longer than I expected, because of the scope of things that I'm trying to make sure I tie up. I'm thinking it'll be longer than the usual installment, but we'll see. It just is incredibly difficult to wrap up the things that need to be wrapped up. I actually ended up re-reading the entire series from start and taking notes, because there are always things that get missed when I'm working (I keep several background data files for reference already).

I also need to write a few short stories, there are some side things that really need to be addressed. So I'm busy. There's also a lot that's been going on with that legal matter I'm involved in, and that's been consuming some of my time and it's not anything I can talk about.

I went to the Air Races in Reno last month (I can't believe I forgot to put an update here). It was fun and it was nice to get away for a week. I really need to start taking more than just one week off a year. Just a bad habit I got into a number of years ago that I should break. Attendance was down this year, which was very surprising, as the last few years it's been climbing.

I've also been giving a lot of thought to what I'm going to work on next, perhaps at times too much thought, but it makes it clear to me that I need a break from writing Valens for a while. Will I come back to this series? Probably. I really don't see myself doing some sort of sequel to it, I just need to think on it for a while. If the interest is there (and I suspect it will be) I see no reason for not doing it.

My goal is to get #17 out by the end of this month. I will see if I can get some shorts out before it, but if I don't, they'll definitely come out after it. I don't know if it'll be the veilverse or POI 9 next, probably veilverse. That's already like halfway done.

And feel free to ping me if I haven't posted in a while. There's been a lot of distractions in the last month!

FINALLY!

Okay, it appears that it is finally moving into publishing.
I have a link, but it's not live yet. I need to stop watching this like a hawk and try and get some work done, but here's the link (which isn't working yet so try and be patient):

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07X3NFMQ2

I think that will be the correct link. Hopefully I'm not wrong and it's active soon.

Still no idea what's going on.

Okay, I have no idea what's going on with Amazon. It's been almost 36 hours and not only has the ebook not gone anywhere, the paperback was kicked out of process and I had to resubmit.

Complain to Amazon, that's about the only thing that might work. But probably only if about ten thousand or more of you do it.

Come Thursday, if this is still going on, I guess I'll be forced to start looking for a new place to do business.

Sunday, August 25, 2019

I have no idea when the book will go live

I guess I'm going to have to write a letter to Amazon. I called them up and the response was:
I Don't Know

Well okay, I paraphrased a bit. They said that it's just stuck in the queue and that there were a lot of books published this weekend (there are a lot of books published every weekend).

So it could be out ten minutes from now, it could be out three days from now. Something is screwed up at Amazon and they won't admit to it.

EDIT:

So, amazon called back and kicked it out of publishing and had me resubmit it. They say it will be live in a few hours.
Fingers crossed.

A quick update

Someone just reminded me that I hadn't posted here in like three weeks. With the exception of having to deal with some legal stuff and some house that pretty much ate up half a week, I've been working on getting #16 finished.

As of today the first draft is almost complete. I'm doing the first re-write now and I'll write the closing chapter after it's completed. Because I have to cut and paste a section, I'm holding off on the last chapter until after I move that. So depending on how things go, the book will probably go off to my editor on Tuesday. After that, my beta readers will get it.

I'll be at the Air Races around the 12th of next month. That'll be nice because I haven't been to Reno in a year, which is a bit long as up until the move we used to go there fairly often.

So that's where things are right now, and I thought I'd let you all know.

Just an Update

So on Friday the arm brace finally came off. It's rather nice to be able to type quickly again and not have to deal with the issues that the brace was causing me. Of course with my arm being able to move all over, it's sore a fair amount of time. I have exercises to due now and I'm not allowed to lift anything heavy (or do much of anything) with that arm until November.

Still, it's nice not wearing that huge brace or dealing with it anymore.

Work on book #16 has begun, I'm going to try and push hard the next few weeks to see if I can get it done sooner rather than later. I'm also not quite sure what I'll be taking on next once Valens is complete. I know a lot of folks want to see a follow on story set in the same universe, and I do have some plans for one. But I'm not sure if I want to do that immediately, or perhaps write something else first. Because I do have another story that's much more science fiction in mind. But I don't think it's going to run as long as Valens did. I'm coming up on the two year anniversary from when I first put pencil to paper for this series. While I have a series that I've been working on over a longer time frame (Portals of Infinity), it's not one that I've worked almost non-stop on, turning out book after book.

The Valens legacy will definitely make it to eighteen books, though I don't think it will go past that. I think once it's done I'll finish up a few currently open projects and then take a little time to think about what I should do next.

Publisher's Pack #7 of the Valens Legacy Release Date

Hi everyone, the official release date for Publisher's Pack #7 audiobook (which is made up of books 13 & 14) of the Valens Legacy is July 30th. The audio has all been submitted to Audible. I do not know yet when pre-order will become active. With Audible, you never know.

Book #15 - Firestarter - is publishing

I just pressed 'publish' on the next Valens Legacy book: Firestarter.
I don't know how long it will take to get through Amazon, seeing as today is a holiday. Once I see that it's up, I'll announce it.

Tuesday, June 25, 2019

A Quick Update

Book #15, Firestarter is almost done. I'm in the first rewrite and adding a bunch of things that I had put off until later. I'm hoping to have all of that done tomorrow, then it will be into the second rewrite after which I will send it off to my beta readers.

My editor is going to be going through a surgical procedure soon, so I'm not sure if this will be edited before it goes out. I don't really have the time to find a new editor if they are not available.

I'll also be in Chattanooga at LibertyCon from Thursday until Sunday. I'll have a laptop with me, so I can publish from there if everything is wrapped up by the month's end. We will see.

On the arm part, it's healing. I've got five and a half more weeks in the brace. I can type, for about an hour at a time before I need to take a brake, and that seems be be improving with time. Last week was just one of those weeks where a number of things that were highly unexpected happen (like my Subaru dying on the side of the highway and stranding us for three plus hours while we waited for a tow truck to come and get us - still no idea what's wrong with it, probably be a few months before I can tear into it with the arm and all).

This is definitely shaping up to be an interesting year! So much going on. Hopefully book #16 won't have such a long wait, and I need to write at least one more wives tales, possibly two.

Thanks for being there!

Friday, June 7, 2019

In the brace now...

Started typing again last night. I have limited use of the left hand, but it'll improve with time. Valens #15, tentatively titled 'Firestarter' will be out this month, it's already halfway done after all.
The big question is will the working title make it thru to publishing. They've got a 70 percent success rate...

Saturday, June 1, 2019

The Surgery went well

And I'll be typing one handed for probably a week. The arm is all bandaged up from jst below thw shoulder to the wrist. So I cant move the elbow or my wrist.

In a week the bandages come off and I go into a brace. Typing will be difficult because of the angles involved, but we will see. Right now it all hurts like a bitch of course. After 2 months the brace should come off, but then I have another 3 or 4 months of having to be careful (and do therapy) until is fully healed.

I'm hoping that in a few days I'll be able to get back to work, using a pencil and paper, until I can type again. One handed is kind of slow.

So, things are good, just gotta heal a bit first.

Thursday, May 30, 2019

Saw the surgeon today

Will be going in at 11 tomorrow to have the ruptured bicep repaired.
The next book will probably be a little bit delayed. But I should be able to type once I get the bandages off and put into a brace.
Total recover will be like FIVE months :-P But the brace should come off after about two. The biggest problem will be remembering I can't use my arm for anything requiring strength until like November.

The Dragon Award Nominations are almost done

Here's the link: Dragon Awards

This is a fan award where anyone can vote, and it's probably the best indication of what people are reading. I'd love to win something like this, but there isn't a category I could compete in - Fantasy is where the Valens Legacy would go, but there's no way I could compete against a straight up fantasy novel. The top tier ones of those have hundreds of thousands of fans.

So, if you can, please vote. If you vote for me, thanks for the sentiment, but I won't be hurt if you decide to vote for someone with an actual chance of winning :-)

The arm needs surgery

Just a brief update. Doctor says I need surgery. The particular type he doesn't do very often so he's sending me to another surgeon who performs it regularly. Hopefully I'll see them early next week and we can get this scheduled. It isn't cheap, and I won't be able to use my left arm for anything for about two months. Maybe longer.

Yeah, this has been an interesting year so far.

Thinking of raising my prices

I'm thinking of raising my prices. Going to $3.99 was a pretty big move for me when I did it.  When I priced the Valens Legacy series at $3.99 I was worried about it. There are people out there who literally write me hate mail and hate reviews because I 'charge too much' at $3.99.

But I found that even the guy who copied me is charging $4.99.

Think about that. He's charging more than I am. Hell, damn near everybody is now charging more than I am, and I'm supposed to be one of the top authors in the field? *shakes head* Yeah, I don't think I'm gonna go raising the prices on anything that's already out there. But I'm seriously thinking about raising prices to $4.99 on everything I write from this point forward.

Oh, and I've checked page counts. Yeah, some are writing longer books (about 10 to 15 percent longer). But a lot of them are writing the same length. Or less.

Weigh in below...

Wednesday, May 8, 2019

So umm, guess what? About that guy.... ;-)

So yeah, that guy who wrote a book that seems very suspiciously like mine? Who then claimed NOT to be that guy who did it to me last time?

Yeah... Right... At this point I'm 99.9 percent certain that it's the same guy. That he just came back at me AGAIN, just a little more carefully this time. So based on that, his claim not to have even known who I was until his book was done is quite bogus.

It also means that he has even less of a chance at winning a lawsuit. I think it would put his chances into actual negative numbers.  (before they were simply 0)

Now yeah, there is a very very very very very small chance that this is someone else, so I'm not going to claim it as a legal fact, but in my personal opinion, it's him. Why he is obsessed with me, especially after the spanking he got last time, is beyond me. If he'd been a man, when he got caught with his hand in the cookie jar, he would have at least owed up to it. But instead, he immediately started jumping up and down and screaming that he didn't take those cookies, while the chocolate was still smeared all over his face.

All I ever did was said I was annoyed by it. I never once made any threats, legal or otherwise. I never even told anyone to give him bad reviews or engage in any other improper behavior. Most of the bad reviews predated my even posting about it. I even specifically told folks that if they wanted to read it, I didn't care, and if they enjoyed it, I didn't mind. I don't think I have the right to tell you, my readers and my fans, what you should like and shouldn't like. Not my business. My business is to try and provide you with a quality story that you will enjoy.

I have some thoughts on all of this, that I think I may address in later posts. They're not about this guy, which is why I will post them separately. But they are about some lessons I've learned in life that I think folks may benefit from.

Thanks all of you for reading me, and thanks all of you who told me about this guy. Several more people have written in private with more tidbits that I've found interesting. Again, thank you.

Sunday, May 5, 2019

Okay, he claims he's not that guy

So I got a nasty email tonight from the author wherein he claims that he is not the person who I dealt with last time. He then went and threatened to sue me if I don't take down my posts about the book and all that. Seems he thinks I told people to one-star him.

I never told anyone here to one-star him. Why? I don't want to get in a shit flinging contest with him over this. If you like the book, fine, you like the book. As I said before, if you want to read it, I don't care.

But there really isn't anything he can say that will make me believe that he didn't rip me off, idea-wise and plot-wise. Oh, I don't think I can sue him for what he did, I'm fairly certain he steered well clear of anything actionable. As for me, guess I'll be calling my lawyers in the morning and telling them I'm gonna be sued.

edit: I removed his name, not because I'm worried about being sued, he has no case. But because I don't want to drive ANY traffic to him.

Friday, May 3, 2019

Yeah that guy is back again...

One of the ways you know that you're successful, I guess, is that everyone wants to rip you off. The guy that tried that last time is back, under a new pen name, and thankfully this time he at least changed enough stuff that I can't take legal action (I hate having to do that, honestly).

But I sort of feel sorry for the guy. Now I know to a lot of you it might seem kind of strange that I feel sorry for a guy who is ripping me off, but as I read through the book I realized that here is this guy who wants to be a writer, and he hasn't got the slightest bit of creativity in him.

None. Nada. Zilch. He -has- to rip off other people's ideas because he can -not- come up with them on his own. He took stuff out of my story (again, not enough to sue over I'm sure, but still obvious) that he had no understanding of why it was there, and it shows that he really has no idea at all what he's doing. He's just copying and trying to change enough not to get sued.

When I started reading it, I kinda hoped it would hare off into its own thing, with his own take on stuff, but except for the sex scenes, it very much stuck to the general plan of my story. He passed up so many chances to do things differently, which tells me that he has no idea what he's doing, he has no creative spark, no art in his soul, nothing.

Yes, he'll put out a bunch of books like mine, they'll probably sell a bunch because the market is always hungry for more, and then he'll either look for someone else to copy or the fans will realize he's just mailing it in and ripping it all off from other people. Which is probably why he uses pen names and won't write under his own name, in the hope that his reputation won't catch up with him.
But really. It's just sad.

A General Update

Just a general update. My arm has been getting better, so I don't think I tore a tendon, though I did tear the bicep. So it's looking like I won't need surgery. Which is a good thing.

I've been trying to work on a book for the Veil universe with Blaise and William, it's taking me a bit out of my comfort zone because I'm working in someone else's sandbox, but I think it's something I need to try and do because I think it will help me to be a better writer.

While dealing with that, I've been thinking on the next Portals of Infinity book some, and I've been thinking a LOT on how to handle all of the upcoming stuff in the Valens Legacy series.

The funny thing is, that on this series I originally planned it to be 18 books. Then for a while I was thinking I'd be lucky to get to 16. Now I just put out 14 last month and I'm looking at everything that's going on and right now at this moment, I'm not really sure how long it's going to take me to get to the end of it. I don't think getting to 18 is going to be much of a problem. I think trying to finish it by 18 probably isn't going to happen though.

Right now, the hardest thing I'm looking at is covering the timeline from where the last book ended (Mid April) to July 4th, which is when things really start to happen. I'm probably going to have to just 'gloss over' some of that time frame because other then dealing with the day to day stuff, not a lot is going to be happening that's any different conflict wise.

But July is when the main gate opens. July 4th actually. That's when the real war begins. (And no, I didn't plan that date, it just happened when I plugged the starting date into the spreadsheet I had to build to keep track of everything.)

I honestly never thought I'd get to this point in the story. Not and still have so many people still interested in it. It's very humbling. Now I just need to get the rest of it down on paper.

just an update

so. hurt my left arm. may have to see a specialist. not gonna be writing very quickly for a while. hopefully i wont need surgery.

Amazon messed up

So a LOT of new releases got deleted last night on Amazon's US store.
A Lot.

My last two books were caught up in this and I have NO IDEA when they will be restored. I just know that I'm screwed. My latest book was in the 'new release' cycle on Amazon and now it's been kicked out of it.

This is going to suck.

Monday, April 1, 2019

So, in case you hadn't heard....

I've filed a lawsuit in US Federal Court against the guy running that pirate site.
Or rather my lawyer has filed it. I've found out why nobody else has sued him, it's because it costs a hell of a lot of money. Litigation is very expensive.

Why did I do it? Because he's a scumbag and somebody had to. He's ripping me off and when I sent him a Cease and Desist as well as a DMCA take down, he refused. After my lawyer sent him one, he just put up more of my books. Oh, and he's making money off of his pirate site. He even bought himself an airplane. And he's rude and nasty to the people who have been asking him to stop pirating their works. Because he knew those people didn't have the money to go after him.

Now of course, he's in hiding, because someone finally got tired of his bullshit.

I've got a gofundme running to help defray the legal costs, if you want to contribute:
Link -> https://www.gofundme.com/bring-ebookbike-to-justice

I'm not crazy about having to do this, but the guy is actually hurting me, as well as a lot of other people. Everyone else kept talking about it, but I'm the guy who actually did it. The threats have started, people calling for me to be doxed or assaulted or murdered. About what you'd expect from the folks following a scumbag like him. I don't really expect anyone to really try to attack me, but some of the things people are saying is just flat out nuts.

On the other hand I'm getting a LOT of support from the people who this guy has been ripping off for years. One of the things that convinced me to act was this new author. On the pirate site he was a featured author with (apparently) tons of downloads. But on Amazon he was selling almost zero. That's right, new author puts out a book and this pirate totally rapes his sales and discourages him from continuing.

Also, I just can't stand bullies.

Pirates *sigh*

If you have downloaded my ebooks from anyplace other than Amazon, you have an illegal copy.

There is a site in a foreign country, that does not care about copyright law, with a large number of pirated books on it, including most of my catalogue. They try and make it look like what they're doing is legal (it isn't) and that they have permission (they don't). The guy running the website is a former politician and complete scumbag.

Unfortunately, the country involved doesn't give a damn about things like this, even if it is against the law. I'm sent him several legal notices, but he refuses to honor a single one.

So again, please don't download my books from anyplace other than Amazon. No one else has permission to sell my ebooks.

Dealing with this guy has pretty much left me unable to write all week. He'd been cutting into my income significantly. It's quite depressing that NO ONE will stop this man.

Pre-Order for Publisher Pack 6 (Books 11 & 12) on Audible!

That's right, the Pre-Order for Publisher Pack #6 of the audiobook version of the Valens Legacy is now available on Audible. Release day is April 9th.

It's the M2 System, -not- the M2 Browning.

"The M2 system was a variation on the XM1, replacing the .30-caliber M37C machine guns with 7.62×51mm NATO M60C machine guns. The mounts were similar to the XM1, also providing flexible elevation, with 650 rounds per gun stored externally"

I picked the M2 system because I needed to find something that used that particular type of ammunition (with iron cores), which was only used during the Vietnam war. At the time it never occurred to me that people would confuse it with the M2 Browning Machine Gun. I should have known better.

Plotting....

I haven't really taken the time to sit down and actively plot out the next several books in the series. Well this morning I finally got around to doing just that. Book 13 is about 1/3rd done currently and I really had to get more down on the next several volumes beyond just general ideas and a very rough outline.
I now have the rest of the current arc laid out. I'm not exactly sure how many books it will take however, could be four, will probably be more. I'll figure that out as I refine things.

However, once this arc is finished, the next thought is: Then what? Seriously, there's a lot of follow on potential and I'm even thinking of some new short stories. If there's interest, I may even open up an anthology for others who wish to write shorts, because the opportunity for ones that will have no effect on the main story line exists.

As always, so much to do...

Wow, would you look at this...

For all of those who gig me for selling my books at $3.99

https://www.amazon.com/Temptation-Forgiveness-Commissario-Mysteries-Hardcover-ebook/dp/B074WFFPVG/

That book is only FORTY-TWO pages long, it's FOURTEEN dollars, and it's a BEST-SELLER!!!

Ha!

And it's number twenty-seven in the series!!

(Gets down on knees and starts bowing, arms out - 'We're not worthy! We're not worthy!')

I wonder how many solid gold Rolls-Royce's she owns? :-D

What's in the Queue

Okay, thought I would take a minute to let you all know what's going on right now. The next installment of Wives Tales is what I'm currently working on. I'm hoping to have Peg and Cali's entries done very soon.

Book #13, will probably start right after I finish that.

However. I don't know if any of you have read Blaise Corvin's Asgard Awakening, or William D. Arand's Cultivating Chaos of their combined VeilVerse universe. I'm currently reading Blaise's and it's -really- good. Once I finish that I'll read Williams, which I expect to be equally good. The reason I'm mentioning this is that they have invited me to write a novel in their universe as well, and I'm seriously considering it. It's kind of hard to turn an offer like that down, after all.

So if I do decide to write that book, I'll start working on it either while writing #13 or after writing it. I'm actually messing around with plot ideas for that book right now. I just need to read Will's first, so I can be sure I fit in.

There will be another Portal's of Infinity, of course. I'll probably write it after I finish #14 in the Valens series. I want to see if I can start working on two books at once again, something I used to do but haven't done in over a year. Usually writing the second book goes at a slower pace, but it still gets done. I wrote about ten books last year, my goal for this year is twelve. Will be interesting to see if I can do that or not.

Anyway, back to work...
