  2. Great book.
Only have one question, the First says the lions plane is not physical or something similar which works for me except for 1 thing. The U.S. Marshalls a few books back were taken there and came back with either a weed or flower. That is the only sticking point I would like explained if you do not mind.

    1. Yes, that is curious, isn't it? Hmmmm, maybe it means something? ;-)

    2. I am so happy to get that response, I thought it was a plot mistake. Thank you.

  3. Hi, read it as soon as it was available.
But I think there is one plothole. Or at least one major oversight by all involved characters.
There were problems to get weapons over the border. Or at least to get all the bullets they need, right?
Now in "It Ain't Easy" there these werewolves who had the boopy trapped gold bars in their backpacks.
When they were in feral wolf form the backpacks magically vanished, only to appear back when they shift into biped form.

Now why not filling some backpacks full of bullets, put it on the back of a werewolf in human form let him shift and cross the border.

This would make lycans perfect mules for contrabands.

    1. There is a limit as to how much you can take with you when you shift. They weren't sure what kind of a
      mmo they would need either.

  4. Well, a standard bar of gold is around 25 pounds.
One of those boopy trapped werewolves had two of them in his backpack.
50 pounds of hardware packs some serious punch.

    1. if you remember in it aint easy the gold bars were small at only 5oz.

    2. I've dealt with a fair deal of precious metals and they all come in many different sizes. There really is no 'standard' hence why I said a 5oz bar, as gold is around 1500 dollars per ounce I think.

    3. Depending on the market place, I've seen $1000 per troy
      oz.

  5. I’m not sure if you go back to other posts to read comments so I bought I would post this here. The shadow audiobook chapter 10 at 41mins in has the narrator sounding really weird and almost like a different person. While I haven’t loved this narrator the book itself is good enough that I will keep it anyway. Figured I should let you know so you can look into it.

    1. I actually haven't listened to it. One of the reasons I'm working with Podium is that they do all the QA (and honestly I'm not a big fan of audiobooks, too easily distracted :-P ). Taking the 20 or so hours out to listen to one is time I could better spend writing the next book.

I will forward this to them however. Thanks!

    2. Kyle, Could you give me the exact line, please? They're looking at it, they said that there's a sentence where he sounds more vigorous than the next one, but they wanted to know which one you were talking about, so they can look into it further.
      Thanks!

    3. “It was 6 in the morning when shadow finally collapsed on the bed beside nance” in chapter 10 at 41 mins into the chapter. It doesn’t sound bad it just jarring because he sounds really close to the mic. At first I actually thought it was a different narrator but it starts to get back to his normal voice gradually and is normal after 10-15 seconds. If you need me to I can send a screenshot with the line highlighted in the ebook if that makes it easier. I’m sorry for the trouble

  7. Is there any way you can put the key people and who they are in the beginning of the books? I really love the books but it takes me forever to remember who is who and goes where. Just a thought.

    1. If you go to my webpage at: http://www.vanstry.net/stryvant/
There is a tab on the side that takes you to a list of all the characters. It's not alphabetized currently, but it is in a basic grouping for who is what, etc.

    2. It's nice that you put that list up, I listen to the audiobooks so I actually get to put voices to the names, you should think of linking in the artwork for each character that has it in that list (mainly Sean and his wives) that easy there is a face to the name and voice the cover at gives us some ideas but.... That said do you know when podeum is releasing publishers pack five? I hope it's soon, I love this series and the narrator is pretty good, no Luke Daniels, but no one I have listened to is accept him so far. But he does have competition and Mr. King is no slouch. I have all the audiobooks and buy all the kindle versions as well to best support my favorite authors. The only thing I dislike about self published authors is there is little chance to ever get hardback copies, I like collecting my favorite books in hard back, usually only hardback but after I received the Romulus Buckle books by surprise signed by the author I have started collecting self published authors signed books that I love. It always amazes me how well some authors can spin a yarn so well it can literally take me away from this planet to an alternate reality all in the depths of my mind. It is truly magic, and an under appreciated gift inn today's age of VR, Megaplexes, and on demand infotainment. The fact that my phone recognized infotainment as a word just proves my point so well. Keep dreaming up your and writing your alternate realities and I will take trips to them as often as I can.

    3. I think it is going to be March before the next publisher's pack comes out, I would say to write Podium Press and let them know you can't wait for the next one. With the way Audible/ACX works, feedback on sales is slow. So it's months before they know how well a book really is doing for them.

I do have paperbacks, but I have yet to find anyplace that offers hardcovers for a reasonable price. As for signed copies, I really don't know the logistics of offering that.

There is a copy of the cover for 'Stand on It' on the website with the wives each labeled, just click on the 'Valens Legacy Series' link on the sidebar. As for pictures of the other characters, well, artwork isn't exactly cheap and I never really took the time to describe all the characters in detail enough to commission an artist to draw them.

    4. Oh, and thank you for the compliments.

    5. Your welcome, I was unsure if you ever went to like con's or whatever, I usually don't but would for some of my more favored authors. As for the list, I think that the art work currently is great, it was more just an idle thought of linking the images in. I am sure that commissioning art is expensive... I am good at landscapes I never got the whole people thing down well enough. If I had I would offer to some of them for you, though, I am sure there are fans out there who would gladly put forth submissions if you did a contest or something, just a thought... I love seeing fan art for some of the other series I read.

I really love these books, and I have never really done a lot of reading in the literary rpg realm, though I am an avid gamer. There is another series I read that more takes place IN an RPG world rather than a world with RPG elements. The idea that some of the magic users have something of a character sheet is a pretty neat idea, as is the idea that perhaps the father of modern table top RPG's was possibly a magic user himself, I think is a great story element. It also makes for an easy way to portray someone's relative growth without really breaking the story because it's more of an aside. Also it does not really pertain to any specific role playing system, in this way it doesn't alienate someone who may or may not like that system.

Sometimes I have thought to write a book based on some of the shenanigans we get upto in our games but I don't really have the ability to construct a world in that fashion. I have written several technical manuals and they were fine, but far from true literature. Another thing that interests me about authors is how they approach a story in the terms of ending or continuing. I am always terribly sad when I get to the end of series knowing that the little pocket universe will stand as it is for all time, sure I can rewind it but never will it go passed that spot. On the other hand, I know of series that just keep going and kind of play out as rehashes of earlier encounters, or worse things keep escalating to absurd proportions and the hero's always make it out. Some series end with the main character passing at or near the end of the last book and this while emotionally crushing (in a good way) ends the story in a way that works because the life we were all following has ended. This, however, could very much become an over used trope that just lacks any punch with readers.

When I finally realized that the last Iron Druid book was the LAST one I was so bummed. I imagine that as an author one can come to a point were your just done with the story, or your out of ideas, or you want to move on to another idea. In this way Kevin Hearne has moved on and his newest book is a solid start on a new series. I have to imagine that trying to decide on when to end something can be rather tough.

Personally some of my favorites series have found an end and I wish had not, some just stop writing anything new with no hint as to if or when they will start up again. Some authors like Larson seem to just have so many stories in them they publish something new sometimes it seems almost weekly. Writing several different series at a time. How can Larson keep that up? From what I understand has still has a full time job, it just baffles me. I guess I see these worlds/universes that are drawn up in the literary realm as something of the authors creation, like a god they have ultimate power. We as an audience look on but cannot interfere and we all hold our collective breaths until the they are done, either by choice or not. One thing I know for certian, I cherish all of my favorite authors for the windows to these worlds were I can hang up my days woes and be transported to another time or place where for just a time, life is something much more amazing, funny, or exciting that whatever is going on in my life. For that you have my eternal thanks.

  8. Much enjoyed Red Skies, I started reading it after dinner, and at 11:o'clock he's a going to turn in, but I was in the middle of a chapter and didn't want to stop there, then it was so good I thought just one more, then even later it was just one more page, I promise, just this one more. Then all of a sudden, it was almost time to get up! I hate good !books!

    1. I'm at the halfway point in it now. Unfortunately a few things came up that delayed me, so it's taking a little longer than I originally wanted. It should be out in two weeks. Possibly a little sooner, but I'm traveling to NY next week to visit family for a few days, so it may slow things down.
